With limited family contact over the last few months, many of us have more reason than ever to appreciate our mums this year! Daffodils are one of the traditional gifts, but we’ve given this classic a contemporary spin with this selection to help you show your appreciation.
1. Bouquet of origami narcissus, Origami Blooms
This bouquet of five yellow paper narcissus is a gorgeous gift for Mother’s Day and would also be perfect to celebrate St David’s Day (1st March). Each origami bloom is folded from a single square of bright yellow recycled paper and attached to a long flexible wire stem along with a dark green paper leaf for a pretty display all year round. £33 for five, available from The British Craft House.
2. Daffodils botanical art plaque, Rachel Dein
Artist Rachel Dein makes plaster casts of plants and flowers that record all their texture, pattern, and delicacy in exquisite details. To make the tile, Rachel laid flowers and foliage on to a rolled-out slab of clay and pressed them in to transfer all their details and then carefully removed them. A wooden frame was then placed over and the plaster poured in. Once set, the clay was peeled away to reveal the ‘plants’ in relief. With this original piece, she made a silicon rubber mould from which this tile was cast using Crystacal R, a very hard, fine plaster. Available in different designs, this daffodil tile costs £55 from Rachel’s Etsy page.
3. Daffodil ceramic mini jug, Gisela Graham
