Kitchen Remodeling Options: Do You Really Need New Cabinets? | Chicago Kitchen & Batch Remodeling Home Remodeling Contractor

Brand-new cabinets can quickly blow your kitchen remodeling budget, so we urge you to carefully consider whether or not you need to replace them completely. As you are planning your kitchen remodel, you must take the time to see if your kitchen cabinets can last quite a few more years or if they are ready for the dumpster during the renovation process.

Considering New Cabinets

As mentioned above, brand-new cabinets can cost a pretty penny. You can save some cash by choosing stock cabinets, but that is not always an option if you have weird measurements. Stock options will have you choosing from basic styles and sizes, while semi-custom and custom cabinets will have you choosing the type of wood, the style of the doors, and even the design that you love the most.

It will be necessary for you to measure the spaces where you need cabinets in your newly remodeled kitchen and then determine which options will work for your needs. We also encourage you to consider how long you will be living in your home. If you do not plan on being there for too long, you should install cheaper cabinets. However, if you plan on being in your home for a few more decades, high-quality cabinets should be at the top of your list.

Keeping Your Cabinets

While replacing your cabinets may seem like the easiest option during your kitchen remodel, keeping your existing cabinets can save you some serious cash. If the cabinets are in excellent shape, we recommend taking the doors off and sanding and refinishing them. When you choose this option, you can choose to stain your cabinets, or you can paint them a color that will compliment the rest of the colors you are going to be using in this space.

We also love simply changing out the hardware on cabinets, because new hardware can completely change the look of not only your cabinets but your kitchen as well. If you cannot decide what you want to do in your new kitchen space, we recommend changing out the hardware before doing any other work. This will ensure that you can tell how your cabinets will look and will allow you to decide whether you love the new look or need to spend the money on brand-new cabinets.

Your cabinets are only one of the things that you need to make decisions about when tackling a kitchen remodel, but they are one of the most important ones. Please make sure that you talk to your contractor about your cabinets, so you do not make the wrong decision and need to replace them after all the other work has been completed.
