KEEPING YOUR HOME RENOVATION ON TRACK -Homeadviceguide
Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.
We are a full-service renovation and remodeling company. We are experts in managing a project, no matter the size, from start to finish. Our relationships with the suppliers and subcontractors allow our projects to run smoothly. I like to say, “I create the house of people’s dreams.”
Can you briefly describe what a renovation is? Is it the same thing as a remodel?
The terms are interchangeable, but I have always thought of a renovation as a deeper, more extensive project. A remodel is more of a cosmetic, or surface-type project, such as trim and flooring replacement, or simply freshening up with some painting.
What are some of the most common renovation projects for houses?
The most common renovations are kitchen and bath projects. These two rooms add the most value to the home and it’s a great place to start with updates.
When a house needs a lot of improvements, how should homeowners decide what to do first?
Major renovations to home can be overwhelming for the homeowner to handle all at once. I tell my client to develop their master plan for the end result they are looking for. Once that is planned, I help them with breaking the total project into smaller more manageable parts. This works especially well when the client is living in the home being renovated.
What’s the importance of choosing the right designer and builder, and do you have any tips for how to do that?
It is absolutely critical to choose a designer and builder that you can work closely with. Just like any other occupation, if want a pleasant work experience, you have to be able to get along with the architect and builder. The renovation process is a stressful time, I am careful to be mindful of the clients needs in the renovation, their personal schedules, and I make sure that our meeting times are scheduled.
What are one or two of the biggest challenges that homeowners run into during the renovation process? How can they successfully deal with that?
Time and money! A renovation, always takes more time than expected due to unforeseen circumstances. The budget is often stretched when changes occur that make the renovation better, such as appliance upgrades, lighting add-ons and finish detail upgrades.
