On the outside, this home for sale in Lombard, Illinois, for $389,900 appears to be your basic, run-of-the-mill suburban house.
But what’s in the basement has the fans of a popular real estate social media page scratching their heads.
“From the moment you arrive, you will be impressed by the stately circle drive, professional landscaping and iron fence surrounding the entire corner lot,” the listing on Zillow.com describes the exterior of the three-bedroom, five-bathroom residence.
Most rooms inside the 2,804-square-foot home can be described as “professional” as well.
But the basement conveys an entirely different mood.
“Be prepared to step back in time as you enter the medieval inspired bonus space,” the listing says. “Notice the attention to detail in this space including the hand-crafted arched wood doors and amazing hardware.”
Fans on the Facebook page Zillow Gone Wild were quick to comment on the unique house.
“Great – now I’m craving Turkey legs and funnel cakes from the renaissance festival,” one person said.
“Client: Well, I like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Cheers.’ Equally.
Interior Designer: ‘I got you,” another joked.
“They seemed like the typical suburban Illinois family…until they stumbled into The Basement,” one person commented.
“For when you want it to feel (medieval), but still have that 70s, ashtray on every surface, basement vibe,” someone said.
“Other than the medieval manor in the basement and a couple random columns and archways…it’s not that bad,” another observed.
“This house SCREAMS Chicago suburbs and I’m so tickled over the wild basement,” someone commented.
“Other than the Beige Becky color palette, it’s a nice spacious house,” one person remarked. “I never watched Game of Thrones, but I’m kind of digging that basement.”
Lombard is about 21 miles west of Chicago.
